The addition of an intercooled screw-type supercharger and a slightly longer stroke results in 5.5 liters, 493 horsepower, and 516 lb-ft of torque. Behind this potent mill is the Mercedes electronically controlled five-speed automatic, upgraded to AMG status. The SpeedShift programming delivers 35-percent-quicker shifts, with gear changes manually controllable from two steering-wheel-mounted buttons. Mercedes ABC active suspension and ESP stability-control systems also are programmed with a more spirited AMG calibration.
